There are many predictions and information worldwide proposing that cataclysmic and apocalyptic events will occur in the year 2012. This idea has been disseminated by numerous books, internet sites and by TV documentaries.

The forecast is based primarily on the end-date of the Mayan calendar, which is supposed as lasting 5,125 years and as terminating on December 21 or 23, 2012, along with interpretations of some legends, numerological studies and prophecies.

Some alternative media (like the movie "The Big Picture") consider that "the end of the world profecies" related to 2012 are only a "smoke screen", designed by some media interested to mask other really dangerous things which occur now.
