The problem of acidity during ohsawa is not because Agni is STRONG, but because it is UNHARMONIZED. It can be therefore a problem of one with a weak Agni as well one whose Agni is strong, even though indeed the latter might experience it more.
The best thing to do is to harmonize the Inner Fire - which can be done through herbal treatment (under guidance of a knowledgeable Ayurvedic practitioner) or through Hatha Yoga practice focused on Manipura Chakra.

Other important factor, which will prevent acidity problems (and which is widely ignored by many undertaking this diet) is to eat the prescribed amount of grains. This diet requires daily consumption of 800g of dried grains. Meaning - You take 800g of rice, You boil it all, You eat it all.
Practically it means You will most likely be eating whole day. In this way, there is always something in Your stomach and the increased amount of acid You speak of will be used to digest the grain.

It is also best to avoid, when faced with acidity problem, eating BROWN RICE, as actually only people with Vata digestion (not necessarily the structure of their body itself, as it can be of a different type) can properly digest it. In others - it rises the acidity, and if Agni is unharmonized and there is nothing in the stomach... You know what Smile
If You want to eat rice - EAT WHITE RICE.

The ohsawa diet is the detoxification of the entire bloodstream, thus detoxifies the entire body. During the 10 days of it, the entire blood in the body is being replenished and the used grains - as well as salt - being of support the process of purification. This effect occurs however only if one eats at least (!) the mentioned amount of grains - eating few
"ohsawa breads" per day, or partial fasting during the diet, will not do.

I haven't heard or experienced myself problems with joint-pains during ohsawa, but I would expect it might be a result of what I mentioned above. In fact, You would be surprised to see how many problems people encounter in techniques are quickly resolved when technique is done AS IT IS DESCRIBED. Avoid "custom versions" and other "folklore".

I just recently finished a cycle of 7 Ohsawa nr.7 diets and feel I can make some comments upon the subject, while the experience is still quite fresh.
It became apparent to me that in order to reach the maximum benefits offered by this procedure is to do it simple - nothing but the BOILED grains. During this cycle I spoke by several people who had very good results coming from severe observing this indication and as I was finishing and doing the technique for which the diets were a preparation for, it became apparent to me that the results of the technique would have been much clearer and stronger had I followed that advice. So while ohsawa breads and rice cakes can be enjoyable - if one wants to experience the fullness of the benefits, he or she should stick to boiled grains.

A word of friendly warning to those who consider making Ohsawa diet only with white rice. White rice does not have dietary fiber and you will experience some hard times going to the toilet. Found it out the hard way, making lately this experiment.
So better to stick with brown rice (IF your structure can handle it without creating too much acid) or use the other grains as well.

Hello,

I did the 10 days diet a few times before, and after spending some time researching what can be eaten, this is my conclusion.
The basic is very simple - eat only whole grains that are cooked with water and salt.
However, some small additions to the diet can help and are allowed by some macrobiotics teaching and books.
A small portion of pickled vegetables - sauerkraut, cucumber that are organic and only use salt in the making are a helpful digestion and probiotic agent and can benefit the diet.
Hot water with parsley or cinnamon also aid digestion, and there is a kind of macrobiotic tea that is also allowed.
Gomasio. a mix of sesame seed and salt is also allowed to flavor the food.\
Since gomasio is allowed, tahini paste in small portions is also ok.
Some will allow for miso paste, either mixed with the grain or with water as soup.
It is also recommended to start the morning with chewing a handful of uncooked brown rice - don't forget to chew till it become water in your mouth.

When I'm doing the diet I drink one cup of black tea in the morning as well as chewing dry brown rice, and then I cook rice or other grains for lunch and for dinner, With every bowl of cooked grain i also have little bit pickled vegetable and stop eating by 8 pm.
I also count my chewing to make sure each bite is chewed at least 50 times, most of the times more.

The feeling during and after the diet is always great, very sharp and aware.
